Between 1958 and 1966, Zlatko Šimenc was a cornerstone of the Yugoslav national water polo team, securing three prestigious medals at the European Championships. He earned silver medals at the 1958 tournament in Budapest and the 1962 event in Leipzig, followed by a bronze medal in Utrecht in 1966.
