Willis “Mac” McMath
Celebrating the Life and Legacy of Deacon Willis McMath
May 21, 1953 – January 18, 2026
To know Deacon Willis McMath was to know a man of profound faith, quiet strength, and generous spirit. A lifelong resident of Miami and a proud graduate of Miami Central High School (Class of '71), Willis dedicated his life to three pillars: his family, his service, and his God.
For 17 years, Willis served with honor as a Labor Supervisor for Miami-Dade County Corrections, but his true vocation was found in the sanctuary.
As a cornerstone of Dykes Memorial Temple of Faith Ministries for over four decades, he didn’t just hold the title of Deacon—he embodied it. He was a mentor to the youth and a steady hand to his fellow congregants, always ready with a word of wisdom or a prayer.
Above all, Willis was a family man. His 42-year marriage to his soulmate, JoAnn, was a testament to unconditional love and partnership. Together, they raised two sons, Dennard and Demetrius, instilling in them the same values of integrity and devotion.
Willis found his greatest peace on the water with a fishing pole in hand, or surrounded by the laughter of his loved ones. He never met a stranger, possessing a rare gift for conversation that left everyone he met feeling valued and wiser. His legacy continues through his wife, children, and his beloved grandchildren, including his grandson Dakahri "DJ" and bonus grandchildren Darquevian, Ke'Naijah, and Sid'Niyah.
While he is missed deeply, we rejoice in knowing he has heard the words he lived for: "Well done, thou good and faithful servant."
