Willie James Fletcher Jr
A life well lived
Willie James Fletcher Jr., passed away on October 7, 2025, in Livonia, Michigan. Born on August 18, 1958, in Detroit, Michigan, Willie lived a life marked by humor, generosity, and deep-rooted faith.
Willie began his career with the Kmart Corporation, where he worked for many years until the company closed its doors. Following that chapter of his life, he transitioned into various roles within the manufacturing industry. His strong work ethic and adaptability carried him through these changes until health concerns led to his retirement.
Raised in a god-fearing household, Willie accepted Christ at an early age and remained grounded in his faith throughout his life. His upbringing instilled in him values of kindness and compassion that he carried into every relationship and interaction.
Willie was known for his infectious sense of humor and his ability to bring joy to those around him. Whether he was watching forensic shows, playing games on his phone, or spending time with family, he had a way of making people laugh—often by channeling his inner Rick James with playful singing and dancing. His lighthearted spirit was matched only by his generosity; Willie was the kind of person who would give you the shirt off his back without hesitation. Speaking of backs, Willie was also a snazzy dresser. The clothes he wore showed a style that was unmatched by anyone. Whether he was wearing an all white short set to a picnic or all black outfit to a wedding, his fashion choices made people step back and pay attention.
His humor never left him even as his health continued to fail. In fact everyone on his care team spoke highly of him and talked about how much they are going to miss his laughter, smiling face and upbeat attitude.
He was preceded in death by his father, Willie Fletcher Sr., as well as siblings David Fletcher, Deborah Robinson, Kelvin Fletcher, and Gregory Fletcher.
He is survived by his devoted mother, Margaret L. Fletcher; three loving sisters: Phyllis Henderson, Sharon Harper (Michael), and Susan Long (Alonzo); and his ex-wife Frances Hodge, with whom he raised Winifred Hodge and became affectionately known as Papa for Winifred's children Amair, Skylar, and Armoni.
Willie's memory lives on in the laughter he inspired and the love he shared so freely. May his legacy bring comfort and joy to those who cherish him.
