Vernell Davis Ingram Kerns
Vernell loved to cook, can, crack walnuts, and garden. She could prepare a chicken; pluck it, soak it in salt water, cook it; and end up with the most tasty chicken salad. Vernell loved to sew and even made Barbie doll outfits for her daughter's dolls.
Vernell farmed (dairy and tobacco) right there beside her husband; Maris Vernon Kerns; since July 9, 1952, when they married. (Maris passed away in 1991.)
They had four children: John, Diane, Denise, and Delores. She worked hard, made many life-long friends, and loved to travel. She and Delores traveled to The Blue Ridge Parkway often. On a trip to Natural Bridge "Nell" met Governor Terry McAuliffe. This thrilled her immensely. (See photo)
Nell loved watching Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy, and The Lawrence Welk Show. She loved word search books; later in life; when she became less active. Vernell kept detailed scrapbooks from her highschool days and would look through them often; recalling old friends.
She lived the majority of her life in Sutherlin, Virginia. Born in Halifax, Virginia (Ingram) to Arthur Bidwell and Annie Osborne Ingram
