On July 18, 2026, an Iranian ballistic missile and drone attack struck Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan, killing 1st Lt. Tyler James Feehan, a 25-year-old Army air defense officer from Ewa Beach, Hawaii. The U.S. Department of War released his name days later, after his family had been notified, according to ABC11.

Feehan served with the 2nd Battalion, 55th Air Defense Artillery Regiment, 32nd Army Air and Missile Defense Command, out of Fort Bragg, North Carolina, according to Army Times. He commissioned as an Air Defense Artillery officer and was posthumously promoted to captain, awarded the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart and the Combat Action Badge, according to DVIDS.

Lt. Gen. John L. Rafferty, commanding general of U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command, said losing Feehan to enemy fire would "inspire our Soldiers and strengthen their resolve." Brig. Gen. John Dawber, who commanded the 32nd Army Air and Missile Defense Command, called Feehan's dedication to "our mission, our values, and the air defenders he led" a legacy that would endure.

Feehan's name now stands beside that of Pvt. Isabella Gonzales, the 19-year-old soldier from Carrollton, Texas, who died alongside him: two soldiers whose home states learned in the same week what that base in Jordan had cost them. The captain's bars he earned only after death stand as the Army's accounting of what he gave. What his family and the soldiers he led carry forward is simpler: he was there, doing the job the country asked of him, on the day the missiles came.
