Happy to Be Here began as the phrase on a bracelet Sydney Towle helped design, then became a compact expression of the way she met a public audience. Towle, the 26-year-old creator and writer whose candid posts drew hundreds of thousands of followers, died on August 5, 2026.

Her family announced her death on Instagram the next day, TODAY reported.

That audience began with dance videos she made while studying at Dartmouth during the COVID-19 pandemic. After graduation and a move to Los Angeles, she started speaking directly to the camera about her life. By January 2026, The Dartmouth reported, she had more than 800,000 TikTok followers and more than 60,000 on Instagram. She said the most meaningful part of the work was connecting with people facing difficult experiences.

Before short-form video made her widely known, Towle wrote for her student newspaper. She majored in government and environmental studies, worked with Dartmouth’s Sustainability Office and Rockefeller Center, and published columns on climate, campus culture and online habits.

Towle also co-created the Happy to Be Here bracelet with Little Words Project. A foundation profile said 6,927 bracelets raised $34,635 for the nonprofit. On May 28, 2026, she opened a Post Swim collaboration on the main stage at Miami Swim Week, a runway appearance documented by People.

Her Dartmouth columns, the bracelet worn on thousands of wrists, the runway photographs and years of direct-to-camera conversations preserve the particular form her influence took. She made openness feel conversational and gave an online audience a simple vocabulary for meeting a difficult day.
