Sir Emmanuel Agorom, JP
A true gentleman and rare gem has taken his final bow...
Sir Emmanuel Agorom, JP - affectionately known as Emma - began his earthly journey as a beloved son of the late Victor Ogazi Agorom and the late Elizabeth Agorom of Umunwachukwu kindred, Obinnekele Amatta, Ikeduru LGA of Imo State. From his early years at the prestigious Holy Ghost College, Owerri, Emma distinguished himself as a brilliant student and an exceptionally gifted athlete and footballer. His quest for knowledge led him to the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, where he graduated before dedicating his life to service - both to God and to his nation.
Following his National Youth Service, Emma joined the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), Abuja, as one of its pioneer staff. During his time at the FCDA Lagos Liaison Office, he married his beloved Nkechi, and together they began their beautiful life in Lagos, where their first child, Chinedu, was born. When duty called him back to Abuja, their family grew with the arrivals of Somachi, Zimuzo, and Chukwuemeka.
Throughout his distinguished career, Emma served with unwavering integrity, humility, and excellence. He held several notable positions, including Secretary of the Special Taskforce on Recovery of Government Properties and Abandoned Houses - an initiative created to secure accommodation for public servants relocating to the new Federal Capital. He also served as Secretary of the Abuja Project Implementation Unit, Secretary of Abaji Area Council, FCT Coordinator of FEAP, and retired as Deputy Director in the Engineering Department. In every role, he exemplified dedication, fairness, and a deep sense of responsibility.
A devoted soldier of Christ, Emma’s faith was the anchor of his life. He was the pioneer Secretary of the Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA) at All Saints Church, Abuja, and a sound teacher of the Word, leading numerous Bible study sessions with clarity and conviction. His tireless service in the Lord’s vineyard was recognized with a Knighthood by the Diocese of Ikeduru - a testament to his spiritual devotion and steadfast commitment to God’s work.
Within his Amatta community, Emma was a pillar of strength and a source of warmth. He was deeply loved, especially by the children whose lives he touched with kindness and gentle guidance.
Even as he quietly battled ill health for many years, Emma’s spirit remained unbroken. He carried himself with grace, positivity, and resilience until the very end. He is survived by his devoted wife, his children, grandchildren, in-laws, siblings, extended family and a wide circle of friends and well-wishers who will forever cherish his memory.
May God grant rest to his gentle soul until we meet again on the resurrection morning.
