Nancy elected to Delaware State Senate
In 1974, Nancy Wilson Cook won a seat in the Delaware State Senate to represent the 15th District, filling the vacancy left by her late husband, Allen J. Cook. This victory made her the first Democratic woman ever elected to the state's upper chamber, marking a historic shift in the gender dynamics of Delaware politics. Her election began a legendary 36-year tenure during which she became a tireless advocate for the agricultural and rural interests of Kent County.
