Kenneth Mattocks
Kenneth Mattocks was born on October 21 1952 in Rensselaer, IN to Marilyn and Elwyn Mattocks. He had two siblings, Vicki DeHaan and Jim Mattocks, who both reside in Renssealer. He was blessed by their continued love and support, especially during the last decade of his life when he moved back to his childhood roots and was fortunate to live at the family pond, built by their father. Ken graduated from Rensselaer High School and then continued his education at Judson University. It was there he met his wife of 39 years, Beverly Cunningham. Together they served American Baptist Churches in Arizona for 10 years with Ken completing his Masters in counseling. In 1985 they moved their three children, Kendrick, Kristin, and Kurt to Crawfordsville, IN where they resided and served at First Baptist Church until 2000. In 2002 they moved to Lake Waveland, it was here that Ken lived his happiest days. He was affectionately known as "poppy" by his 7 Grandchildren. Lake days consisted of boat rides, walks on the bear trail, fishing, visiting Turkey Run State Park, swinging from the giant oak tree, and ended with campfires and smores. In Ken's best years he enjoyed reading, playing cards and games of all varieties, and above all, chocolate.
Per Ken's request, no public services will be held. While it's difficult to tell the story of his life, the story of his death is simple. It was beautiful. His final days were those of love, forgiveness, compassion, and boundless grace, offered by his family and those at The Gathering Together hospice home in Plainfield, IN.
