Kenneth “KC” C. Hayes
KC the MAN
The life of Kenneth Hayes, Sr. stands as a grand monument to the power of artistry, laughter, and an unyielding spirit. Born on March 11, 1956, to Floyd “KC” and Ida B. Hayes, Kenneth was a lifelong son of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where he spent seven decades crafting a legacy of excellence. On January 16, 2026, he transitioned from this world, leaving behind a story defined by passion and a profound devotion to his craft and his kin.
A man of extraordinary discipline and vision, KC’s journey of mastery began at South Philadelphia High School, where he graduated in 1974. His quest for creative brilliance led him to the Art Institute of Philadelphia; there, he honed his talents, graduating in 1986 to embark on a distinguished career as a Private Chef. Until his retirement in 2003, KC transformed the culinary arts into a grand experience of joy, using his remarkable skill to delight and inspire all who tasted his creations.
KC’s heart found its greatest fulfillment in the love of his family. In 1978, he and his longtime girlfriend, Annise Jones, welcomed their son, Christopher Hayes, Jr. The bond between "KC" and "CJ" was legendary—a spirited partnership of "troublemakers" that radiated light and love. One of Kenneth’s proudest triumphs was witnessing his son graduate from Parkway Northwest High School in 1996. His joy reached its pinnacle on February 18, 2008, with the birth of his grandson, Jabriel Alexander Singleton—who affectionately knew him as “Pops”—the glorious fulfillment of a lifelong wish.
Beyond his professional achievements, KC was a true connoisseur of history and craftsmanship. His magnificent collection of swords stood as a tribute to his deep appreciation for the finer details of the past. His enthusiasm was infectious, and his eyes would ignite with brilliance whenever he shared the stories of his finds. A man of profound understanding, he was adored by his brothers and sisters for his vibrant spirit and the love he so freely gave.
Even when faced with the formidable challenge of pancreatic cancer, KC remained a beacon of indomitable strength. He met his final days with a resolute spirit, determined to honor every moment with those he held dear. His remarkable legacy continues to shine through his son, Christopher Hayes, Jr.; his stepdaughter, Tiffany Lewis; and his siblings, Janey, Jeanie, Michelle, Anita, and Timmy. Kenneth Hayes, Sr. will be remembered as a man of grand passions and a best friend to all who crossed his path, a man whose laughter and strength will forever inspire the hearts of the family and friends who miss him deeply.
He will be deeply missed and loved by those that were around his undying spirit.
