After leaving his first job as a "rivet hotter" in the railway works, Ken White transferred to the signwriting department and then enrolled at Swindon Art School starting in 1962. In 1978, White painted elaborate trompe-l'oeil murals covering the exterior of Richard Branson's Town House recording studio in London. This commission began a two-decade professional relationship with Branson's Virgin companies, including work for Virgin Records, Virgin record shops, Virgin hotels, and eventually Virgin Atlantic airline.
