Johnnie W. Lewis, Jr.
In loving memory we honor the life of our dear departed Johnnie W. Lewis, Jr. who has left an incredible mark on all of our lives. He will always be remembered for his kindness, generosity & unwavering love for his family, loved ones and friends. Though we grieve his loss, let us take comfort in the memories and love we shared.
Johnnie W. Lewis, Jr. was born December 5, 1938 in Nash County, NC. He was one of five children born to the late Dorothy & Johnny Lewis, Sr. After high school Johnnie left North Carolina and moved to Brooklyn, NY where he lived with his late sister Dolores. In his work life he was a Kirby salesman, Electrician and NY Transit worker; he retired from NY Transit in 1995.
Johnnie dated, fell in love, and married the love of his life Lorraine Lewis. Born to them during their 48-year union were three children: Mark, Jay and Wendy. Preceded in death by his wife, they are now joyfully reunited in their eternal home. Johnnie knew the Lord! He along with his late wife Lorraine were members of Andrews United Methodist Church, Brooklyn, NY where they served for many years.
Johnnie had a heart of gold and lived a life defined by steady love, integrity, and devotion to his family. To those who knew him best, he was a dependable presence, quick to help, slow to judge, and always ready to assist in any way he could. Above all, he was a devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather, father-in-law, brother, uncle, and friend. He was loved by many! To have had him in our lives was a gift from God! His absence will be felt by all of us!
Aside from spending time with family Johnnie found joy in his cars, listening to music, eating chopped BBQ, watching baseball (Yankees); basketball (Knicks) and early in life, playing the trumpet. His favorite movie was the Color Purple, favorite artist, James Brown and favorite Soap Opera, General Hospital.
