We lived next to Jack, his lovely wife Janice and Jack’s Mother for 11 years. Nothing but first class people. One day I came home and parked the car in our drive way and heard someone yelling for help. I heard it again and asked the if I should come in and Jack’s Mother said yes and I found Jack’s Mother in her recliner and she had reclined too far back and the recliner had gone back with the back of the chair on the floor with Jack’s Mother back against the chair and her legs sticking straight up. I helped her out of the chair and got her up and got the chair up and help her sit down, she was fine. Another night, it was around 11:00 pm and I see the police, fire department and Cincinnati Bomb Squad pull up in front of my house and they go into The Wurtz’s. Well they were going through the house and found some of Jack’s Dad’s belongings in the attic from World War II and one was a box of areal bombs. So finally around 2:00 in the morning they let Lynn back in and by that time Jerry had gone home. A few weeks later The Wurtz’s all moved with Jack and Janice again being our neighbor in Lookout Farm, but not next door. Jack was truly a nice Man and a joy to be around. Rest in Peace Jack.
John (Jack) Wurtz
John “Jack” Wurtz passed away on February 16, 2026 at the age of 66. He leaves behind wife, Janice, daughter, Mary, son-in-law Andrew Hampton, and cat Willow. Preceded in death by his father Roger, mother Mary, and brother Jerry, he also leaves behind his siblings Lawrence (Nancy), Thomas (Barbara), Diane Smain (Edward), sister-in-law Lynn, and many nieces and nephews.
Jack’s favorite part of life was being a husband and a father. He was an avid fan of the football, basketball, and baseball teams at his alma mater, Covington Catholic High School, and once went 21 years without missing a CovCath basketball game. He was also extremely passionate about the musical artists he loved. He saw Elton John in concert 35 times, let alone other favorites like Rod Stewart and Billy Joel. He disliked blue jeans and nuts, and he took his cheese coneys with onion, but no mustard. He attended all of Mary’s softball and basketball games and academic team matches, and he always replied to “I love you” with “I love you more.”
In lieu of flowers, please send donations in Jack’s name to Covington Catholic High School, 1600 Dixie Hwy., Park Hills, KY 41011. Jack’s funeral will be held at Blessed Sacrament Church in Ft. Mitchell at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, February 20.
