Entrepreneur and content creator
A 1999 Dodge camper called El Suave became both Joe Felz's home and the workshop for a public experiment in living with less. Felz, an entrepreneur and content creator who documented van life, solar power, business building and rare books, died in 2026. He was 40.
Felz built his working life in Augusta, Georgia, founding Felz Investment Group in 2011 and later incorporating a remodeling company. Practical construction remained a thread through what followed.
On August 9, 2022, Felz told Tiny House Talk that he loaded his possessions into a 1999 Dodge Xplorer and drove west. He rebuilt the camper with maple counters, poplar doors, solar panels and an off-grid generator. The vehicle became a home, workshop and route into the landscapes he wanted to explore.
The move supplied the story he shared online. TMZ reported that his Facebook and Instagram audience exceeded 1.4 million combined followers. His videos covered van travel, renovation, renewable energy and small systems built to operate away from the grid.
Felz also created property-management tools and a solar calculator, then worked on renewable-energy training in Costa Rica. FelzBooks brought his curiosity to rare Bibles, maps and religious texts, which he scanned so readers could search them digitally.
His partner Alx announced his death on Instagram and asked that his family and loved ones be given room to grieve. The statement did not specify the date of his death.
What remains is the solar system inside El Suave, the miles filmed from the road, the businesses he started, the tools he designed and the old pages he scanned for new readers. Together, those projects traced the question at the center of his public life: how much could a person build, learn and share after choosing to live with less?
