Army Pvt. Isabella Gonzales was standing air defense watch at Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan when Iranian ballistic missiles and drones struck overnight on July 17, 2026. She was 19, from Carrollton, Texas, and had enlisted straight out of high school. She was one of two U.S. Army soldiers killed in the strike, among the casualties of the 2026 war with Iran.

She grew up in Carrollton, a Dallas suburb, and graduated from Hebron High School, part of Lewisville ISD, in spring 2025, enlisting soon after. She served as a private with the 1st Battalion, 57th Air Defense Artillery Regiment, 10th Army Air and Missile Defense Command in Ansbach, Germany, then deployed to Jordan supporting Operation Inherent Resolve, CBS News Texas reported.

The other soldier killed was 1st Lt. Tyler James Feehan, 25, of Ewa Beach, Hawaii, of a separate unit at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, Defense News reported. The Department of War released both soldiers' names on July 20, 2026, after notifying their families.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott said Texas mourned "the loss of Army Pvt. Isabella Gonzales of Carrollton, killed in action serving our nation in Jordan." Lewisville ISD, her former school district, said her decision to serve after graduation "speaks volumes of her character."

Gonzales had worn the uniform a little over a year, moving from a Carrollton classroom to an air defense post in Germany and then to Jordan, when she was killed defending Muwaffaq Salti Air Base. At 19, she was the younger of the two soldiers lost in the July 17 strike. Carrollton and Lewisville ISD now hold the plain record of her choice: a private who enlisted straight out of Hebron High School and was sent to stand watch on an allied base half a world from home.
