Geoffrey Deuel was an American character actor best known for his portrayal of Billy the Kid in the 1970 western 'Chisum,' where he starred alongside John Wayne. A native of Lockport, New York, Deuel built a steady career in television and film throughout the 1960s and 1970s, appearing in popular series such as 'The F.B.I.,' 'Mission: Impossible,' and 'Barnaby Jones.' He gained significant recognition for his recurring role as Dave Campbell in the daytime soap opera 'The Young and the Restless' during the mid-1970s.
Deuel was the brother of the late actor Pete Duel, the star of 'Alias Smith and Jones,' whose tragic death in 1971 deeply affected him. Despite the personal loss, Geoffrey continued to work in the industry, bringing a charismatic and often intense presence to his roles. His performance in 'Chisum' remains a highlight of his filmography, praised for capturing the youthful volatility of the legendary outlaw.
In his later years, Deuel stepped away from the limelight, residing in Florida. He passed away in Largo at the age of 81 due to complications from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
