Began a successful private law practice in Jackson, Mississippi, after several years in government service.
Nominated by President Ronald Reagan to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit.
Confirmed by the U.S. Senate and received his commission as a Judge of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit.
Wrote the unanimous opinion striking down Louisiana's creationism law, a decision later affirmed by the Supreme Court.
Transitioned to senior status on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, continuing to serve.
Elbert Grady Jolly Jr. passed away at the age of 88.
