Duke Wayne Cooper, 77, of Matthews North Carolina died March 1st 2026.
He was born April 19th, 1948 in Charlotte to Marvin Cooper and Mary Elizabeth Webb. Duke was a proud lifelong Charlottean. He attended Garringer High School.
After graduation Duke enlisted in the U.S Marine Corps and was a veteran of the Vietnam War
Upon his honorable discharge from the Marines Duke was hired by the Labor Union and trained to be an Electrician. Through hard work and training Duke became a Master Electrician, specializing in HVAC systems and Refrigeration.
In his late 30s Duke suffered a debilitating fall at work and suffered with Chronic Back Pain the rest of his life.
Duke never let his pain define him. He maintained a "I got this" attitude and pushed on.
Duke would go on to teach his skills at CPCC for 25yrs.
Duke never really retired and help his neighbors, church members and friends with home repairs and of course free advise.
Duke will be remembered for his positive attitude, willingness to help those less fortunate and listening to those who needed a friend.
Duke is survived by his children Duke Cooper II, Maggie Cooper, Chris Matthews (Danielle) Granddaughter Wilkinson Koseky Matthews and Fiance Mary Allen.
A Celebration of Life service is planned for March 26th, 2 o'clock at Matthews United Methodist Church Matthews N C.
