Reality television star and oil entrepreneur
Duane Ollinger, the visionary explorer and star of Discovery Channel’s 'Mystery at Blind Frog Ranch,' died on June 2, 2026, at the age of 68. He passed away in Amarillo, Texas. Ollinger’s life was defined by a singular, relentless quest for ancient Aztec gold, a mission that saw him risk his fortune and reputation in the Uintah Mountains of Utah.
Ollinger’s transition from a successful Texas oil contractor to a full-time treasure hunter began when he sold his company to fund operations at Blind Frog Ranch. He was driven by the conviction that a $3 billion fortune lay hidden within a system of seven underground caverns beneath his 160-acre property. As noted by Discovery Channel, his 'wildcat' spirit made him a fixture of reality television, but for Ollinger, the ranch was a 'live project' that transcended media coverage.
The pursuit was a high-stakes gamble. Despite the proximity to the paranormal reputation of Skinwalker Ranch, Ollinger remained focused on the physical mystery of the land. He famously stated that if a network did not want to use the information gathered, he would continue the work himself because the story needed to be told. (Hollywood Soapbox) This dedication made him the primary face of the series that debuted in January 2021, according to TMZ.
Ollinger will be remembered as a modern-day explorer who chose the thrill of the unknown over a quiet retirement. He approached the world with a sense of wonder, proving that the greatest treasures are found by those brave enough to keep digging. He is survived by his son, Chad, and his daughter, Tara.

Our sincerest condolences to family and friends. We appreciated Duane’s presence on his TV show. Without knowing him personally, we connected with his larger-than life personality and appreciated his and Chad’s loving relationship. We are very sad that Duane has passed.
Thank you. You taught me to follow my dreams.
Rest in peace Duane you are surely going to be missed by all who watched you on our television screens. Your smile lit up our screens and our hearts, as we watched you each week looking for the hidden treasure, but the real treasure was watching You, Chad, Charie, Eric, James & Ryan on our televisions. I know you are no longer in pain, but as selfish as it sounds, we are losing such a treasure in You that no hidden gems could replace. We all felt we knew you, and you were like a long lost friend to some of us who didn't or don't have much, except for the weekly enjoyment of your show and waiting with awe wondering what Chad and You would do next. Rest easy Brother Nancy & Vic from Maine
Rest in peace. Now you know all the mysteries.
Duane, you might not be here but they know you are there in the ranch. Give them a hand and glide them to the thing you most wanted to find, that treasure of the Gold. RIP Duane our friend. Ben & Mae Tice
Loved this show and thought he was so awesome
