Douglas Harvey "Doug" Lewis, 52, of La Porte, Indiana, passed away on June 13, 2026. Born on April 14, 1974, in Hinsdale, Illinois, Doug lived a life defined by love for his family, an unwavering work ethic, and a deep faith that guided him through life’s challenges.

Doug graduated from South High School in 1992, where he formed lasting friendships and developed the determination that became a hallmark of his character. Over the years, he built a career rooted in perseverance and reliability. He worked at Walmart and Four Winds Casinos, where he was known for his dedication and willingness to help others. However, it was truck driving that brought him the greatest fulfillment. Doug loved the freedom and purpose of being on the road, combining his strong work ethic with his independent spirit. Through his work, he not only provided for his family but also set an enduring example of resilience and dedication for his daughters.

Family was the center of Doug’s world. He was a devoted father to three daughters: Shelby Lewis (George Vansach) of Rensselaer, Taylor Pinegar (Colton Pinegar) of Hobart, and Kassidy Lewis (Cameron Sawyer) of Joliet. He was also a proud grandfather to his cherished granddaughter, Amelia Pinegar of Hobart. Doug’s brother, William Lewis of La Porte, along with countless extended family members and friends, will forever treasure his memory.

Doug found immense joy in creating special moments with his family. Summers were spent swimming at Stone Lake and enjoying adventures at Indiana Beach. Each fall brought cherished trips to Coulter’s Pumpkin Patch followed by family dinners—a tradition that became a cornerstone of their time together. Doug shared his passions with his daughters as well; he was a lifelong NASCAR fan who never missed a race and looked forward to watching Star Wars films with them as each new release came out. His love for The Dukes of Hazzard added humor and nostalgia to their lives. These simple yet meaningful traditions reflected Doug’s deep commitment to making memories with those he loved most.

A devoted Christian, Doug’s faith was a source of strength throughout his life. While living in La Porte, he attended Tracy Church for many years, finding fellowship and spiritual guidance there. His faith was evident in the kindness and compassion he showed to others—qualities that touched everyone who knew him.

Doug faced life’s challenges with remarkable strength and courage. As a child, he overcame cancer and later battled both bone cancer and colon cancer with the same resilience that defined him. Despite these hardships, he remained a loving father and provider for his daughters. His determination to fight for those he loved left an indelible mark on all who knew him.

Preceded in death by his father Lee Lewis (2016), mother Karen Lewis (2025), grandmother Roxina Kenitz (2009), and grandfather Harvey Kenitz (1994), Doug deeply admired the values they instilled in him. His family takes comfort in knowing he has been reunited with them in eternal rest.

Doug’s legacy is one of love, strength, and generosity. He cared deeply for others—especially those less fortunate—and sought to make a positive difference wherever he could. His memory will live on through his daughters, granddaughter, and all whose lives were touched by his compassion and unwavering devotion.
