David Brigati was born in Garfield, New Jersey, where he was also raised.
Brigati started his professional music career as the lead singer of the doo-wop group The Hi-Fives, recording songs on the Decca label.
He became a lead singer for Joey Dee and the Starliters, contributing to their early success.
Throughout the 1960s and 1970s, he contributed uncredited background vocals and harmony arrangements for The Rascals, earning him the nickname "the fifth Rascal."
As a lead vocalist for Joey Dee and the Starliters, Brigati co-led the hit single "Peppermint Twist," which reached the top of the Billboard Hot 100.
David and his brother Eddie Brigati released a collaborative album titled "Lost in the Wilderness."
Brigati performed with The Rascals at their induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
David Brigati was honored at a tribute concert celebrating his musical contributions.
