Following his stellar college career, Thomas was drafted by the Los Angeles Rams in 1958. He went on to play 11 seasons in the NFL, primarily as a defensive back for the Rams and the Pittsburgh Steelers. During his professional tenure, he was a Pro Bowl selection in 1963 and recorded 27 interceptions, showcasing his versatility and defensive prowess. He also contributed on offense, amassing over 1,000 receiving yards.
