Bob George "Barney" Charney, Jr., 55, of St. Petersburg, Florida, passed away on June 26, 2026. Born on October 24, 1970, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Bob was the son of the late Robert G. Charney, Sr., and Mary A. Charney-Judy.
A proud graduate of North Hills High School's Class of 1988, Bob carried his love for his hometown and its sports teams throughout his life. He was an avid fan of baseball, football, and hockey and found joy in cheering on his favorite teams. Bob also had a passion for working on cars—a hobby that showcased his hands-on skills and dedication to detail. He loved spending time at the beach and listening to live music, finding peace and happiness in these simple pleasures.
Bob's generous spirit was evident to all who knew him. He had a huge heart and was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. His kindness and willingness to support others left a lasting impression on those fortunate enough to cross paths with him.
He is survived by his fiancée, Michelle Goodson; his sister Lisa Coleman (Todd); nieces Alaina Caldwell, Audrey Jeswilkowski, and McKenna Jeswilkowski; and nephew Robert Caldwell. Bob was predeceased by his parents but leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories for his family and friends.
While no formal funeral service will be held, a tribute to Bob’s life will be planned in the future as an opportunity for friends to gather and celebrate the impact he had on their lives.

I’m so sad to hear of Bob’s passing. Sending prayers and love to Lisa, her family, Bob’s fiancé and all who loved him. My childhood memories are filled with such fun times when I would come to Pittsburgh each summer to spend time with my cousins, aunts, uncles and our gran. Dancing, playing games, reunions and lots of love and laughter. Your bright smile will forever be remembered. Rest well as you are reunited with your parents and so many of our family members.

He never knew it but as a young baseball catcher who I idolized, Bob taught me incredible lessons on how to play this important position that served as a metaphor for the game of life. Be confident, be aggressive, be a great leader and follower,, don’t be afraid to take risks, be the best you can be, and always stand your ground. Bob was all of this behind home plate where this outlook on life served me well as a person and as a military professional. Rest in peace Bob and may you have eternal life in the kingdom of Heaven.
