Aroha Edward Awarau was born in 1976, beginning his life in the Taranaki region of New Zealand.
While still in high school, Awarau became the first writer to win the prestigious Ronald Hugh Morrieson Literary Award three times, showcasing his early literary talent.
Awarau earned a degree in Film and Television from the University of Waikato, laying the groundwork for his career in media and storytelling.
He furthered his education by obtaining a journalism degree from the Auckland University of Technology, which propelled him into an award-winning career in journalism.
Awarau was recognized for his journalistic excellence, winning the New Zealand Magazine Journalist of the Year (Mass Market) award.
His first play, 'Luncheon,' received critical acclaim and won the Best Play award at the New Zealand Script Writing Awards.
Awarau's second play, 'Officer 27,' was recognized as a finalist at both the NZ Adam Playwriting Awards and the New Zealand Script Writing Awards.
Aroha Edward Awarau died peacefully at Mercy Hospice in Ponsonby after a short battle with cancer, leaving behind a significant legacy.
