Canadian film producer
Andrew Gunn, a prolific Canadian film producer known for his work on beloved family-friendly movies, passed away on March 2, 2026, at his home in Toronto, Ontario, at the age of 56. His death followed a courageous battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Gunn's career spanned decades, leaving an indelible mark on Hollywood, particularly through his collaborations with Walt Disney Pictures.
Born in Toronto on July 15, 1969, Gunn developed an early passion for storytelling that would eventually lead him to a successful career in film production. He began his journey in the late 1990s, notably running development at John Hughes' Great Oaks Entertainment, where he contributed to the development of Disney films such as "101 Dalmatians," "102 Dalmatians," and "Flubber."
In 2001, Gunn established his own production company, Gunn Films, which quickly secured an exclusive overall production deal with Disney. This partnership proved incredibly fruitful, leading to a string of commercially successful and critically acclaimed family comedies and adventures.
Among his most notable producing credits are the hit remake "Freaky Friday" (2003), starring Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan, and the imaginative superhero comedy "Sky High" (2005). He also produced films like "The Country Bears" (2002), "The Haunted Mansion" (2003), "College Road Trip" (2008), "Bedtime Stories" (2008), and "Race to Witch Mountain" (2009).
Beyond his work with Disney, Gunn co-founded Solstice Studios in 2018, a venture aimed at producing mid-budget films for theatrical release. He continued to engage with high-profile projects, including the live-action "Cruella" (2021) and the highly anticipated sequel "Freakier Friday" (2025), which saw the return of its original stars.
Andrew Gunn's dedication to crafting engaging and entertaining stories for audiences of all ages cemented his legacy in the film industry. His vision and commitment to quality production will be remembered by colleagues, collaborators, and the countless viewers who enjoyed the magic he brought to the screen.

Oh Gunner. What fun we had in high school and beyond. What an amazing partner in crime. “Follow me to Victory!” So sorry to see you go. Xoxo
I am saddened to hear of Andrew’s passing. We met as kids when the family moved to Greensville and Andrew and I became close friends. We stayed in touch for a while after the family moved back to Toronto during our high school years but I always tracked Andrew’s career and was so happy for the success he had. He was a great friend and his passion for the film industry. My thoughts and prayers go out to the entire family. Andrew Rawls
Sorry for ur loss rest in peace 🙏
Dear Gunn family, I grew up in Hollywood elbow to elbow with Andrew on so, so many occasions. I always knew him to be kind and enthusiastic, honorable and fair-dealing. There was never anything sleazy-movie-producer about Andrew. He treated women with respect and helped others break into the business. He really was a class act, and I was privileged to work in the same business alongside him for so many years. I left the business years before him and had not heard he was diagnosed with ALS. I am sorry I was not able to reach out in that impossible time for you. I am so deeply sorry for everything your family has had to go through. He was a good man, and I am so sorry he is gone. Thank you for sharing him with us. I pray for your healing and speedy recovery.
Andrew's passion for Canadian film truly shone through his work, leaving a lasting legacy. His vision and dedication will be deeply missed by all who knew him and admired his contributions.
