Abraham Isaac Quintanilla
Abraham Isaac Quintanilla Jr., the musician, producer, and steadfast patriarch who guided the career of his daughter, the late Tejano superstar Selena, passed away on December 13, 2025, at the age of 86. His family confirmed that he died peacefully in his sleep at his home in Corpus Christi, Texas. A figure of immense influence in Latin music, Quintanilla was known for his disciplined vision and his role in transforming a family band into a cultural phenomenon that bridged borders and generations.
Born in Corpus Christi, Quintanilla began his musical journey in the 1950s with his own group, Los Dinos, but found his true calling as a manager and father. Recognizing the prodigious talent of his youngest daughter, Selena, he formed Selena y Los Dinos, featuring his children A.B. on bass and Suzette on drums. Under his rigorous mentorship, the group rose from playing small weddings and restaurants to filling stadiums, popularizing Tejano music across the United States and Mexico. His ear for hits and business acumen laid the foundation for Selena to become the "Queen of Tejano Music."
Following Selena's tragic murder in 1995, Quintanilla dedicated the remainder of his life to preserving and protecting her legacy. He established The Selena Foundation to support children in need and oversaw the production of the biographical film Selena and numerous posthumous albums. While often viewed as a stern and protective figure, his actions were driven by a father's enduring love and a determination to ensure his daughter's memory was honored with dignity.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Marcella, his children A.B. and Suzette, and multiple grandchildren. In accordance with his wishes, no funeral service was held, and he was cremated. His passing marks the end of an era for the Quintanilla family, but the musical dynasty he built continues to resonate with millions of fans worldwide.
Those who wish to honor Abraham's memory are invited to plant a tree in their name.
