James "Big James" Wynes
Our beloved brother, father, grandfather, partner, and friend, James "Big James" Wynes, passed away on July 31, 2026, at the age of 59.
James was born on April 8, 1967, in Talcott, West Virginia, to Mary Ann Wynes and Sylvester C. Wynes Sr.
James attended Lincoln High School in Hinton, West Virginia. He shared many years with his longtime partner, Cynthia Lynn Greenlief, and devoted his career to the railroad, where he worked faithfully for many years.
Known for his warm smile, vibrant personality, and optimistic outlook on life, James had a remarkable ability to make others feel welcome. He found great joy in fishing, cooking, entertaining family and friends, and traveling. Above all, he treasured spending time with his children, grandchildren. One of his greatest pleasures was sharing his love of fishing with his late son, James, and his grandson, creating memories that will be cherished forever.
James will be remembered for his kindness, strength, resilience, and generous spirit. His love for his family was unwavering, and the legacy he leaves behind will continue to inspire all who knew him. While his absence leaves an immeasurable void, his family finds comfort in knowing he is now at peace in the presence of his Lord and Savior.
James is survived by his longtime partner, Cynthia Lynn Greenlief, of Talcott, West Virginia; his daughters, Lindsey Wynes of Beckley, West Virginia, Mackenzie Wynes of Beckley, West Virginia, and Mindy Wynes of Charlotte, North Carolina; his sisters, Sharon K. Haskins of Beckley, West Virginia, Stephanie D. Wynes of Talcott, West Virginia, Lorie A. Wynes of Charleston, West Virginia, Katrina R. Wynes of Hinton, West Virginia, Valerie J. Staunton of West Virginia, Kimberly Wynes of Milton, West Virginia, and Kathleen April Lynn Taylor of Charleston, West Virginia; and his brothers, Anthony T. Wynes of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, and Felix E. Wynes of Atlanta, Georgia. He also leaves behind many beloved grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who will forever cherish his memory.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary Ann Wynes and Sylvester C. Wynes Sr., and by his beloved son, James Keith Wynes Jr.
A memorial service honoring James will be held on August 13, 2026, funeral at Pivont Funeral Home in , West Virginia, with Bishop Fred T. Simms, DD, of Heart of God Ministries, officiating.
