Celebrating the life of Eric Petersen
Eric James Petersen, born February 17, 1944, passed away on June 23, 2026. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend whose love for adventure, family, and kindness left a lasting impact on all who knew him.
Eric had a passion for the skies. He earned his pilot’s license and loved flying, embracing the freedom and wonder that came with it. Eric also had love for golf and always wanted to share his hobby with his friends and family.
For the last eight years of his life, Eric made his home in Wilmington, North Carolina. Although he enjoyed his time there, his heart remained deeply connected to his family and friends in Michigan. He made a tremendous effort to visit loved ones whenever he could, cherishing every opportunity to spend time together and create lasting memories.
Eric was the beloved husband of Teresa Petersen. Together they built a family centered on love, support, and cherished memories. He is survived by his daughters, Katherine Martinez and Eliza “Betsy” Petersen; his son-in-law, Roberto Martinez; his granddaughters, Olivia Martinez and Penelope Kritzman; and many extended family members and friends who will miss him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his wife Teresa Petersen, parents, Omar Joseph Petersen and Margaret Lou Anne Petersen, as well as his siblings, Rosemary Miller and Arvin Petersen.
Eric will be remembered for his adventurous spirit, his unwavering love for his family, and the kindness he shared with those around him. Whether he was soaring through the skies, sailing on the water, or gathering with loved ones, Eric lived a life marked by curiosity, generosity, and devotion to those he cared about most.
His legacy lives on through the lives he touched and the family he cherished. Though he will be deeply missed, his memory will remain forever in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
