I remember the weekend before he was going to deploy. He decided last minute he wanted to run to North Carolina to see his parents Mary and Demetrius, We hopped in the car last minute and made the trip and I didn't mind driving but about halfway through I realized I had forgotten my shoes, it's something that I will never forget, because Alan couldn't stop laughing. And we had to go to Walmart to get a pair or flip.slpps There was never a time he wasn't the fun friend that you could just totally go crazy with. I will always remember how his deep chuckle could fill an entire room and make everyone laugh , even if they didn't know the joke.
Allen Gregory Gibson
Allen Gregory Gibson, 35, of Columbus, Georgia, passed away on January 19, 2023. Born on February 20, 1987, in Eustis, Florida, Allen lived a life defined by service, dedication, and love for his family and friends.
Allen graduated from Jack Britt High School and pursued further education at HCC, seeking a certification in HVAC repair. He later returned to Georgia to continue his studies until his health began to decline. Throughout his life, Allen demonstrated remarkable determination and resilience in the face of challenges.
A proud veteran, Allen enlisted in the U.S. Army during the Iraq War period. What began as a means to fund his education became a profound calling. Serving at Fort Stewart, Georgia, and in Iraq, Allen earned two Army Achievement Medals for his exceptional contributions. One recognized his quick action in securing his base during a breach alongside his team, while the other honored his efforts during an overnight mission to restore power to his Forward Operating Base (FOB). His dedication to his fellow soldiers and the bonds he formed with his "battle buddies" left a lasting impression on all who served alongside him.
After being honorably discharged from the military, Allen experienced a period of improved health and took pride in leading a crew for a landscaping company. Though the work was demanding, he embraced it wholeheartedly, demonstrating a strong work ethic and passion for what he did.
Allen's personal life was filled with joy and meaningful connections. He is survived by his loving parents, Demetric and Mary Jane Porter of Hope Mills, North Carolina, and Cynthia Gibson of Georgia; his sister, Myia Porter of Hope Mills; his wife, Krista Gibson; and their four children—Breanna Gibson-Holt, Blake Gibson-Holt, Britney Gibson-Holt, and Brice Gibson-Holt. He also leaves behind many friends and chosen family members who deeply miss him.
Allen had a zest for life that shone through in everything he did. He had a passion for cars, grilling, playing spades and dominoes, and spending time with friends. A basketball enthusiast, he passed on his love for the sport to his sons Blake and Brice. He was also an active member of a close-knit gaming community where he enjoyed playing NBA 2K and Grand Theft Auto with friends. Among these cherished memories was the time spent with his friend Mike as they played through nearly every Gears of War game together—a shared accomplishment that brought them closer.
A man of faith in a quiet yet profound way, Allen never shied away from conversations about God. Even during some of the most challenging moments toward the end of his life, he found comfort in discussing faith with his children. His unwavering belief gave him peace as he faced life's final chapter.
Allen will be remembered as an incredibly kind and sweet individual who could light up any room with laughter and humor. He was a loyal friend and a devoted father who stepped up for his children without hesitation. His love for them never wavered, even during difficult times.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the doctors and nurses across various facilities who cared for Allen during his health battles. Their compassion and dedication provided comfort during trying times.
Though Allen's absence is deeply felt every day by those who loved him—his children, friends, and family—they find solace in knowing that he is always with them in spirit. As he often reminded them: time is short; cherish your loved ones while you can.
May Allen Gregory Gibson’s memory bring comfort to all who knew him. His legacy of love, service, and laughter will endure forever in the hearts of those whose lives he touched.
